As part of Belgian Red Cross-Flanders, CEBaP is dedicated to informing coworkers and volunteers about the principles of Evidence-Based Practice.
Belgian Red Cross-Flanders has a community of over 10,000 volunteers. Every month, we publish news updates on CEBaP activities that are relevant to Belgian Red Cross-Flanders volunteers onto the volunteer website. We keep working to make scientific evidence accessible to everyone!
In May, we hosted our annual workshop on Evidence-Based Practice. During this workshop, twenty Belgian Red Cross-Flanders employees were introduced to the principles of Evidence-Based Practice through interactive formats, and learned more about how Belgian Red Cross-Flanders uses these principles to support its activities. The workshop was updated with current examples from our daily practice, which were highly appreciated by the attendees.
Belgian Red Cross-Flanders routinely collects data on several activities (e.g. medical questionnaires and laboratory results of blood donors, and details on the nature and severity of injuries treated by first aid volunteers at events). Reliable, well-collected data can provide valuable insights into our operations and processes, helping us make informed decisions and, where necessary, take action to improve efficiency and impact of our activities.
To support Belgian Red Cross-Flanders employees and volunteers in collecting reliable data as part of their daily activities, CEBaP, in collaboration with the ICT Digital Learning department, developed an e-learning on data collection. The interactive e-learning covers why we collect data within our organization, what data collection is, which types of data exist, how data should be collected, and how data are used within our organization. In the future, an English version will be made available to the general public.
During the annual day for Belgian Red Cross-Flanders managerial staff, CEBaP hosted two sessions inspired by the book 'Factfulness' by Hans Rosling. In a keynote, our director Emmy presented up-to-date data on global trends from the Gapminder tool and the 'Our World in Data' platform. During breakouts moderated by CEBaP researchers, the relevance of the book for Belgian Red Cross-Flanders and practical barriers to working evidence-based were interactively discussed among employees.
